Returning

I have been needing to return to writing for some time.

I graduated from Valparaiso University in 2016 with my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I love my job and do it well. I was even told today by a client that I had a reputation in some law firms from unifying families.

In my time as a therapist (so far), I greatly enjoy my work. I have also learned to expect more of myself. I have been working on music since 1992, and have been pleased with my work since I’ve started. I’ve had bumps in that road, but where it has led to is surprising, but fulfilling (sound design using modular synthesis and software).

The question that has been on my mind for the last few months is can I do the same thing with writing. I was given a great education in literature by my professors in undergrad. I have had a strong passion for writing since I was 15, when I first started writing poetry. I had written three book manuscripts by the time I was 22. I even briefly had an agent, but with no success.

I then got into a relationship that had changed my life in the best way possible. I became happy, and found that my desire to write, like many successful artists, had dried up due to being happy. So it goes, as Vonnegut wrote.

Now, I am 23 years from that point. I am still happy. I have more of a desire to be creative than I had in years. I had been interested in getting back into the idea of coming up with playlists, similar to my teens and early 20’s when I made mix tapes. However, I’ve been interested in writing about how come I chose certain music for the mixes. This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while, an outstretch of an article I wrote a number of years ago about “The Art of the Mix Tape”.

So, let’s see where this goes.
